Advocacy
California Outdoor Hospitality Association has a long history of success advocating for its members before the California State Legislature and pushing back against aggressive state bureaucracies. Over the years, CalOHA has won its members the ability to build and rent tent and camping cabins to their customers, carved RV Parks out of the onerous tenant protection requirements mobilehome parks are subject to by passing the Special Occupancy Parks Act, and pushed back for years against costly regulations by Regional Water Quality Control Boards.
Our advocacy program is supported by three essential pillars: lobbying, political action, and grassroots advocacy. CalOHA’s RECPAC Trustee’s consider recommendations from our lobbyists and make campaign donations to legislators and candidates for the state Legislature. Millions of dollars of campaign spending are directed to California state office holders every year by hundreds of interest groups. The RECPAC allows CalOHA to participate in campaigns and increase the political profile of the RV park and campground industry. Your contributions to RECPAC are vital to our continued success.
Grassroots advocacy from CalOHA’s own membership is an essential tool to success. While having boots on the ground and profile is essential in Sacramento, outreach to your own legislators on important issues gives them a “district” perspective and makes our messaging hit closer to home. Our association has members in virtually every legislative district in California, and we highly recommend that our members develop relationships with the legislators who represent you in Sacramento.
